FAQ

Vacation is the most wonderful time of the year. That's why it's even more important that all questions are clarified in advance so that a dream can come true. On this page you will find many answers to all questions about a sailing trip with us. If you have a question that you cannot find an answer to here, please do not hesitate to send us a message.

Who are the trips intended for?

Created with Sketch.

Our trips are intended for all sea and nature lovers. The focus is on close contact with nature, which allows us to escape from everyday life. We explore the country and its people and discover new horizons. Due to the very small number of participants, our trips are very exclusive and personal wishes can be taken into account as best as possible. Our sailing yacht is built according to the most modern aspects and offers outstanding comfort. For us, luxury means being able to experience all of this - anyone who defines luxury as champagne and caviar will not feel luxury on our trips. Of course, nothing stands in the way of a good meal in a restaurant!

What about arrival and departure?

Created with Sketch.

We only charter the yacht. We are not a travel company and therefore cannot and are not allowed to book arrival and departure, transfers or hotel stays before or after the trip and offer them as a package service. Therefore, you have to take care of your arrival and departure and any possible holiday extension yourself and also pay for it yourself. However, we try to choose starting and destination ports for our trip suggestions that are easily accessible by car, train or plane.
Please note that we may cancel the trip, even at short notice, due to extreme weather conditions or illness. When booking flights or adjacent hotel stays, please make sure you have sufficient travel cancellation insurance cover! We as EcoXplorationSailing cannot cover any costs incurred in the event of a short-term cancellation for canceled flights or hotels or similar.

How does the trip work?

Created with Sketch.

Together we discover the world of the sea and the coastal regions. At the beginning of the trip, the final route planning is carried out together, taking the current weather conditions into account. Please note that route changes may occur at any time due to weather changes.
As a rule, we meet at the boat between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the day the trip begins in order to have enough time for errands such as provisions. We either end the first evening in the starting port and visit a restaurant or we cast off the lines and sail a short distance to a smaller harbor or an idyllic anchorage. Before you cast off, you will receive a detailed safety briefing and an introduction to how the yacht works.
The next morning at the latest, after a short discussion of the day's journey, we set sail for the first time. The daily sailing time is usually around four to eight hours. The ship's budget is managed jointly and all crew members contribute. As a crew, we usually prepare breakfast and lunch ourselves and eat on board in the beautiful deck saloon with a 360° view or, if the weather is good, in the cockpit.
On the way there is time to relax, learn more about sailing or simply enjoy the landscape from the water. With a bit of luck, depending on the route, you can also see dolphins or whales.
We are in a different port or anchorage every night. The time on land depends on the sights and landing options. We go on coastal walks and short hikes. Time for swimming or a private exploration of the town or harbor is also included. We usually end the evening in one of the local restaurants to enjoy the regional cuisine and culture.
On the penultimate day we usually arrive at the destination port in the evening to ensure that disembarkation goes according to plan the next morning. Everyone pitches in again and gets the ship's household in order before we say goodbye at 9:00 a.m. - until the next trip together, because friendships that are formed on such a trip often last a lifetime.

Do I have to be able to sail?

Created with Sketch.

No. It is not a requirement for participation that you can sail or even have a boating license. The entire crew is involved in the processes on board, but only on a voluntary basis. You have the unique opportunity to collect nautical miles and grow your sea legs. Learn from professionals while you're at it.

I'm a sailor - can I get actively involved?

Created with Sketch.

Yes! Everyone can get involved as actively as they want and will learn a lot.
For certain trips (long crossings, possibly night trips, high latitudes), a second person on board must meet certain nautical requirements (according to the ship's crew certificate). However, we spell this out accordingly in the trip description and clarify in advance the suitability and willingness to take on this responsible task.

Party or relaxation? What is in the foreground?

Created with Sketch.

If you're looking for a party atmosphere, you've definitely come to the wrong place on our yacht. We enjoy sailing, the sea and the landscape. Of course, there is nothing wrong with a humorous and happy atmosphere and nothing against a good glass of wine and nice music. However, you won't find loud thumping music, party nights or hard liquor here!

I am a nature lover or nature photographer - are the trips right for me?

Created with Sketch.

Our trips are perfect for you! From the ship you will experience nature from a completely new perspective and can discover completely new perspectives that are not possible from land. Due to the very small crew of a maximum of four people, we can respond to requests much more flexibly than with larger yachts. Even with crews of 6-8 people, a noticeable loss of individuality is noticeable.

Who do I share a bunk with?

Created with Sketch.

Our yacht has two spacious double berths and a skipper's berth. The mattress size is extremely large for a sailing yacht at 2.05 x 1.60m in both double berths. Berth occupancy takes place on site by individual arrangement.
If you value privacy, we recommend booking a single bunk.
Children will never share a bunk with strangers but always with a parent.

Can I also have a single bunk?

Created with Sketch.

Of course this is possible. Privacy is important and we can provide it. In this case we charge a single berth surcharge of 75% of the charter price.

What age group are the trips aimed at?

Created with Sketch.

In principle, anyone who has a passion for sailing or would like to discover it can take part in the trips. Age doesn't matter. Interested children (see “Are children allowed on trips?”) and young people are just as welcome as adults or experienced “sea or landlubbers”. After a trip, everyone will have grown their “sea legs”.

Are children allowed on the trips?

Created with Sketch.

In principle, participation with children is only permitted from the age of 10. The parents must make the honest assessment. With a private charter, an individual agreement can also be made for smaller children after consultation, taking special safety precautions into account. Please simply contact us and we will clarify the situation and find an individual solution.
The route of the trip is also an important consideration. It is safer in a protected coastal area than on a crossing route.
Please note that if you are a parent traveling with a child and do not book the trip as a private charter, the child will be accommodated in a bunk with one parent and the second parent will share the bunk with the fourth passenger.
Children aged 10-14 pay 75% of the travel price. Children aged 15 and over pay the full travel price. The same applies to the on-board cash register.

What do I take with me?

Created with Sketch.

We have created a packing list. Here you will find everything we recommend having with you.

I am a vegetarian, vegan or have an intolerance or allergy - what do I have to consider?

Created with Sketch.

Everyone can have an influence on the provisioning, which is usually done together, and contribute their food wishes or needs. Provisions will be provided on the first day and will be billed to the on-board cash register. In the restaurant you are independent in your choice of food. However, if you have special needs, we ask that you let us know when booking the trip.

Do you get seasick while sailing?

Created with Sketch.

Almost no one is immune to seasickness. The stronger the waves, the more likely seasickness is, but it is not common. When it comes to trip suggestions, we value protected passages and adapt the route to the current conditions and the crew. If you have any concerns, we recommend that you ask your doctor to prescribe medication and take it with you as a precaution.

A few general tips to help avoid seasickness or get rid of it as quickly as possible:

  • Avoid freezing and hypothermia
  • Eat normally before the day's stage and not too little or nothing at all
  • At the beginning of the trip, avoid staying inside the yacht in rooms with no or only small windows
  • Drink something regularly, including tea or ginger water for the stomach
  • If you feel signs of seasickness, get some fresh air and look at the horizon
  • It helps many people to take the helm themselves!
  • Alternatively, simply lying flat in the bunk for a certain amount of time often helps

What costs should be expected for the on-board cash register?

Created with Sketch.

The on-board cash includes, among other things, the costs of the skipper, as well as fuel, food and drinks (no restaurant visits) as well as entrance fees for national parks, port fees and canal fees and cleaning of the yacht.
The costs are difficult to predict, as different bills arise depending on the route (port fees, canal fees) and provisions preferences. A rough guideline (calculated rather generously) is around €75 to €90 per person per day for an occupancy of 4 people.
